"Finally"
I managed to get another ride into the schedule this week, and it just worked out that Kathryn and Joy were available too. Finally; I have been nudging them along for quite some time now to "Come Ride With Me", but one thing leads to another and it's hard for everyone to clear the same time frame on their schedules. It was actually much cooler today than we had planned and we were able to get it a short 17 miles before everyone had to take off in different directions. We are all on different levels with our riding skills, and I find it really cool how we help each other with support. In a couple of weeks, we will plan another ride leaving from a different location and end at the ocean if at all possible.
Between now and then I have to solve these flat tire issues. I was once scared to death of getting a flat tire, not knowing how to change it. Now that I see just how frequently this happens, I have another fear. I just don't want to be stranded and yet I hate not being independant out on my bike. I just cannot keep waiting for someone to come along and accompany me because I'll never get out there as much as I need to. Please throw out some tidbits of comfort or ideas. Personally, I think I need a different set of tires on this bike. I am beginning to think the tires are magnetic or am I magnetic. Something is attracting the nails and fish hooks.
Come Ride With Me.

Tidbit always carry a cel phone with the number of the local taxi service on it One phone call and you are home-a little less money in pocket. It's probly not the tires I,ve had 3 flats on the same block 2 going west and one going east Than flat free for 3000 miles. You will get flat after flat if the tubes aren't the right size in width Let me know if I can help Bruce

The Taxi number in the cell phone is a great idea. The number has now been added to my contacts.
Thanks,

I come from a mountain biking background but I'm sure a lot of the equipment is the same. You may want to try slime tubes. My husband and I were getting a lot of flats on mb trails but since we've switched to slime tubes that has stopped. One of the guys at my mb store said he now rides with tubeless tires but they're pretty expensive. You may want to check if either of these products work for road bikes. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your comments. The cost of tubes add up too, so sometimes more expensive in the long run is cheaper. I will leave no stone unturned. :)

Hey Marie,
I understand the issue with the flats. This constant changing of tires happened to me last year and perhaps you should view it as an opportunity to become and expert tire changer. You carry your gear and your ride buddies will make sure you are not stranded so never fear! You'll now be able to teach other new riders how to change that flat.
Ride on...
