Which circle is this one...

Orca Dante wrote in his epic masterpiece The Divine Comedy about the nine circles of hell. I do believe that last night I discovered one of my own -- trying on rental wetsuits. There's nothing like squeezing yourself sausage-like into neoprene and then walking out of the dressing room so the 18-year old kid helping you can zip you up the back. Oh gawd, nightmare. Fat rolls everywhere. Beached whale in long sleeves. Only the thought of 65 degree water temperature prevented me from hightailing my blubbery butt out of there. I've never used a wetsuit before, so it could get interesting this weekend.

Anybody got tips? Help!

I wish I could help. I don't think I have ever tried on a wet-suit, much less swam in one. One tip though...don't might look like an injured seal to a hungry shark! just kidding. Good luck Laura!

Try dropping a little bit of baby powder into the suit, sometimes that helps me get in a little easier.
They make suit "glide" but I don't think you can use that on ones you are trying on.

No way around it -- they're hard to get on. My only piece of advice is to make sure you get it all the way up your legs. Don't leave a bunch of space in the, well, in the crotch, because if you do you won't be able to kick as well, and the shoulders will pull.

Just remember that 1) everyone else - at least all the amateur athletes - feel EXACTLY the same way you do about their bodies in wetsuits 2)there are no mirrors in transition and 3) bouyancy and warmth help create a speedy swim :)

I'm sure I don't, but a long legged, long sleeved suit is right up my alley. I want to go back to the suits from the 1920's :-)

Sorry it took me so long to post!! I was at a 2-day work conference and wasn't able to get online. Thanks everyone for your comments!!

I've got the suit packed into my carry-on bag for my flight to Chi-town tonight. I've got some body glide for wrists, ankles and bra straps. And, since I'm staying with Becky and Steve and Paddy and the wee Twinkies, I can get some baby powder.
