Bike encounter with the DEAF

Apparently DEAF people can be JERK people too.

I was riding my bike home from work today, and I got into the left hand turn lane.   As I coasted toward the RED light ahead, I heard a car behind me honking like crazy....beep, beep, beep, beeeeeeep!  As I usually do when I am riding my bike, I ignored it and did not look back at the fussy car.  To my surprise, the car comes swerving around me, and almost hits me, all while a lady is waving her crazy arm out the passenger window for me to get over. They stopped right in front of me, and I had to slam on my brakes so I would not rear end them with my front tire.

I wasn't too upset at this point, but they did make me a little mad.  The light was red, and if I had been a little bolder, I would have pulled up next to them to let them know the laws of the road. I didn't though...I just stood there and stared at the back of their car, giving them the stink eye.

As I was staring, I realized two things: 1. They were deaf.  2. They were talking about me!  Now I don't know sign language, but I can certainly read body language.  And, I am pretty sure when you take your pointer finger and make small circles around your ear, that means "crazy" or "stupid". It made me more mad that they would talk about me like that...especially since they were the one's who cut me off and apparently don't know all of the rules of the road.

After the light turned green, they caught another red light, so I had an opportunity to pass them.  I wanted really bad to use the one-finger sign language that I DO know...but I didn't.  Instead, I just smiled at them as I rode past.

Now that I think about is kind of funny that I ignored their honking...I hope they think their horn is broken.

We just bought our first house.  It is a cute little house on a corner lot.  It is one block from a creek and bike trail, and five blocks from a sandy beach on a lake.  Of course, we love it!

Only one bad thing so far...We may have a dandelion problem in our yard.  Take a look at the pictures and see for yourself.

All part of summer I guess.

Living with Friends

We moved out of our apartment last week, and into our friend's house.  We are waiting to close on a home that we are buying.  So we are going to live with our friends until then.

Some may say that it is unwise, painful, or damaging to move in with friends...but I disagree. It has been a total blast!  Here are my top five reasons why:

1. Pizza (homemade)

2. Long bike rides to work

3. Staying up late

4. Sharing groceries, and clothes

5. TV (we don't have one, but they do!)

On a side note, Spring is on its way...I am so excited!

Sisters are great.  I went to California two weeks ago to visit my family and I haven't posted any of those pictures yet.  This is a picture of me and two of my sisters, Brittany and Breanna.  I have three more sisters as well.  I should post a picture of all six of is quite a sight!  I feel like none of us look a whole lot alike.

Sisters are great.  I am glad I have so many. Biological sisters, church sisters, running sisters, and of course, biking sisters.  I love all of my sisters out there!

"It felt like springtime..."

"...on this February morning."  I think that is a phrase from a song by Sophie B. Hawkins.

She is talking about love, but I am talking about real springtime!  It is still winter, but this February has been so gentle to us in Minnesota.  I think it was close to 45 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday.  Absolute bliss!

I went for a run outside and it was amazing.  The birds were all out chirping their beautiful songs.  We (me and the birds) all know that this warm weather won't last.  Winter is not close to being over, but we are sure enjoying the break.

The picture is from this weekend at our friend's cabin.  We had so much fun. Thanks for inviting us!

Only in Minnesota

Me right after shoveling snow in the negative temperatures
It has been a cold week for just about everyone in the United States this week.  Up here in Minnesota has been especially cold. With windchill, it has been hitting the       -20s and -30s just about everyday.

Call me crazy, but I braved the cold this week and road my bike to work. I put on snow pants, snow boots, wool socks, 2 hats, a scarf, 2 layers of mittens, 4 layers of jackets, and thermal underwear. The picture is pretty accurate of what I look like while riding.  Only in Minnesota.

As I was riding to work yesterday, I pulled up to a stop light. A car to my left was also stopped at the light. I glanced over at the passengers in the car and low and behold...I saw something that you would only see in Minnesota!

They were all eating ice-cream cones!  Here I was bundled up as much as you can, and still be able to ride a bike, and they are sitting in their car eating ice-cream!

Only in Minnesota do people enjoy ice-cream when it is -20 degrees outside.  Only in Minnesota!

A Photo Shoot

We went out to take some photos with some friends the other day. Thanks Chrissy and Randy, we had fun!  It was really cold and our fingers were freezing, so it didn't last very long.  I think we got a couple of good shots though.  Here they are!

Fun times.  We are sure enjoying the snow and cold weather here in Minnesota.  Not a lot of biking going on right now...I am such wimp when it comes to the cold.
